Why Biarritz Should Be Your Next Summer Escape

La Grande Plage, Biarritz, France

If you’re looking for somewhere chic but not overdone - a place with beaches, good food, and a little bit of French charm without the Riviera crowds; Biarritz is it.

I stayed here this summer and fell in love with how royal architecture meets surf-town, and surprisingly great food. It’s elegant, but you can still walk around in a swimsuit and sandals and feel like you belong.

Here’s what I recommend from my own trip:

Where We Stayed: Hôtel La Suite

We booked the two-bedroom ocean view suite at Hôtel La Suite, and it was perfect. The rooms were bright and modern, with big windows looking right out at the water.

It felt kind of like a chic little apartment more than a hotel. Nice and clean, plenty of space, and surprisingly decently priced for the location (€953 for 2 nights in a room that sleeps 6, that’s €80/person/night). You can walk everywhere from here, and waking up to the view made it feel special without being stuffy.

If you want something more formal and iconic, the Hôtel du Palais is the famous choice. An old royal palace turned hotel right on the beach, but La Suite fit our vibe better.

Where to Eat & Drink

Eden Rock Café

This was hands-down my favorite spot for drinks and a light meal. It’s right on the water, with incredible views of the cliffs and the sunset. The vibe is casual but buzzy, and the food is perfect for sharing. We ordered charcuterie, chicken fingers, and cocktails and just talked for a while.

Yeüz Slice

If you’re craving something super easy and satisfying after a beach day, Yeüz Slice serves giant pizzas, a 7 min walk from the Grande Plage. The staff were super friendly and the pizza was ginormous! Really good.

What to Do

The days in Biarritz are pretty slow, but so beautiful.

  • Spend the day at Grande Plage (the main beach) or explore the smaller coves like Plage de Port Vieux.

  • The market at Les Halles and pick up fresh bread, cheese, and fruit.

  • Take a walk out to the Rocher de la Vierge at sunset

  • Try a surf lesson!

Why I’d Go Back

Biarritz has that rare mix of elegance and ease. You can drink rosé in the sun, eat pizza with sandy feet, and then watch the sunset from a grand hotel terrace all in the same day.

If you want help planning your trip — and making sure you book the best spots with perks where possible — I’d love to help.
